In the processing of mechanism sand and gravel, it is very important to master the properties of the source rock, such as the physical and mechanical properties, mineral composition, chemical composition, and processing performance index of the rock. The main focus is on understanding the crushing power index and abrasion index, which serve as important reference indicators for initial equipment selection, subsequent production and processing, and maintenance of sand and gravel equipment. Simply put, it refers to the crushability and abrasiveness in rock processing performance.

1. Fragmentation of rocks

The crushability of rocks is usually characterized by the fracture energy index (WI), which is closely related to factors such as the chemical composition of the rock, the development of joints (also understood as cracks in the rock), and the crystalline state. For example, hard quartzite is difficult to break, while limestone is much easier. The crushability of rocks affects the particle size of crushing equipment, which in turn affects equipment selection. Generally, according to the range of crushing power index, the rock fragmentation is classified as 1422, which is very difficult to crush. In daily civil construction, there is a higher use of moderately fragmented limestone. Hard rocks commonly found in hydropower projects include deep-seated igneous rocks (such as granite, syenite, and diorite) and eruptive igneous rocks (such as basalt and diabase). Typical hard rock indices commonly found in sand and gravel processing.

2. The abrasiveness of rocks

The abrasion index AI and SiO2 content are commonly used to measure the abrasiveness of rocks, which are related to factors such as the hard mineral content (SiO2, orthoclase, etc.), crystal structure, raw material size, and compressive strength of the rock. The abrasiveness of rocks mainly affects the service life and wear cost of wear-resistant parts during equipment operation, so rock abrasiveness is an important parameter for determining equipment selection. According to the rock abrasion index, the rock abrasion is classified as 0.40.8, with high abrasion.
